Two examples are shown of this famous vessel which raced round the Isle of Wight in the UK in 1851 to initiate the America Cup races which continue today. The waterline model sits on a plinth the collar of which is engraved with an outline of the coast of the Isle of Wight with some eight bays and headlands marked. The hull model will be seen to differ from the waterline model in the sail plan: it has an additional foresail set on a jibboom. This was omitted in the waterline model in the interest of a shape which integrated better with the plinth, but it should be noted that in the famous race the skipper was not too enamoured of the use of this sail and when the jibboom broke part way round he was happy to continue without it - and won!
