These boats were designed from the outset to be capable of being reproduced thereby giving very significant cost reductions while maintaining, within the limits of the reproduction techniques, all the detail, accuracy, and finish of the individually hand worked items. We aimed to produce a series of boats, ten in all, of various sorts and national origins. In genral they have hulls of about 4 inch (10cm) and are on a variety of plinths, often silver seas To a degree these models are off the shelf, and can be modified within limits to suit individual requirements. Production methods include electroforming, casting, and hand work as appropriate to the component. Sails might be electroformed or hand worked; hulls are mostly cast; rigging is of course hand work and Mike had built himself an electrically driven rope making machine for the larger models which finds application here.
