The most significant limited edition we have produced so far has been that of Sir Francis Drakes boat the 'Golden Hind' for the British Royal Mint. We had designed a series of models of boats of different nationalities explicitly in a manner for them to be reproduced - see Multiple Production Models - Boats. Sight of these boats, particularly the English Galleon, prompted the Royal Mint to request that we design a model in the style of the boat on the Half Penny, the Golden Hind, and in the same format as our existing series, which they wished to market through their mail order outlet. The edition was limited to 250 units. A puzzling matter of interest, to numismatists at least, arose during the work. Two half pennies of 1957 are shown in the picture. Note that despite the boat being identical on the two coins as well as the engraver's initials, HP (H Palmer - at the transom below the bumpkins) the seas are distinctly different. It is considered very unlikely that two separate engravings were made and the mystery remains in our contact with the Royal Mint.
