This vessel, a 35m two masted schooner, was Britain’s gift to Australia in 1988 on the occasion of Australia’s bicentennial.

The ship was designed as a sail training vessel by Colin Mudie of Lymington and built by Brooke Yachts of Lowestoft. The model was made during the course of construction of the ship.

The ship was sailed from Britain to Australia by a mixed crew of British and Australian youngsters, arriving in Botany Bay two hundred years to the day after the arrival of the ‘First Fleet’ in January 1788.

Because of time restrictions the photographs here have the sails before being worked to show wind and tension effects but see the Thames Barge models in this section for how one can reproduce these effects in silver.
